St. Andrews, set on Scotland’s beautiful east coast, is a place where history, culture, and stunning landscapes come together. This charming town is so much more than just a golfer’s paradise—it’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for adventure, some peace and quiet, and a chance to soak in some culture. Let me share a few reasons why St. Andrews offers more than just the amazing golf.
Eating
The Tailend – A relaxed seafood restaurant popular with golfers, students and locals, The Tailend offers sit-in and takeaway options. Along with the outstanding traditional fish and chips, the menu offers a selection of seafood delights including grilled prawns, Thai fish curry and fish cakes, to burgers and salads. Keep an eye out for the specials menu which adds some incredible options to your menu choices and changes daily.
Forgan’s – A lively venue, where the varied menu offers something for everyone. From traditional Scottish dishes like haggis, neeps and tatties, to the extensive grill options such as the 8oz Ribeye Steak, the food here is hearty and filling, just what’s needed after a day on the links. Private dining areas for larger parties can be booked in advance, perfect for you and you golf buddies to share stories from the round.
Haar – Relatively new to the St. Andrews food scene, Haar is all about embracing the seasons and sourcing the finest ingredients from across the UK. Famous for its seafood, the tasting menu has a variety of other delicious choices too—just so you know, they don’t offer an a la carte menu. Instead, you get to enjoy a beautifully crafted selection of dishes. As it’s a fine-dining experience, the prices are a bit higher, but it’s definitely worth it for the quality and creativity you’ll get to enjoy.
Drinking
The 18 at the Rusacks – With unrivalled views over the 18th hole of the Old Course and out to the North Sea over the west sands, The 18 bar offers guests an unrivalled selection of classic cocktails, fine wines and speciality beers. Take a seat on the terrace and take in the view, it will not disappoint.
The Keys Bar – A traditional pub set in the heart of the town, The Keys Bar is where locals and tourists come together to create a sense of community and belonging in even the shortest of visits. Established in 1858 and still remaining an independent family run pub, the bar includes a selection of over 300 whisky’s, 150 gins and an incredible choice of Scottish ales and beers on tap.
Golfers Corner at the Dunvegan – Decorated with photographs of visiting celebrities, including 35 Champion Golfers, Golfers Corner is a stones throw from the 18th green of the Old Course. A favourite stop for a cold pint after a day on the course, this is a must visit for any golf aficionado.
